Una lezione importante (2009)
Una scuola immersa in una foresta della Tanzania, i suoi alunni e le sue maestre. Un mondo così lontano, ma allo stesso modo familiare.
La scuola è ai margini della foresta, per arrivarci bisogna percorrere un sentiero tra i boschi e incamminarsi di mattino presto. Spesso occorre prestare attenzione agli animali selvatici, scimmie, antilopi, predatori e serpenti sono di casa.
Per un mese sono “ritornato” sui banchi di scuola, immerso tra una lezione di swahili ed una di matematica.
La fotografia, con la peculiarità e la capacità di cogliere e di bloccare la realtà nel suo farsi, mi ha permesso di entrare nella vita quotidiana della scuola.
Ho fotografato incessantemente, a volte anche con frenesia e accanimento, ma le immagini di questa storia rendono visibile un mondo che altrimenti si perderebbe.
Le schematiche sono le stesse di ogni aula del mondo, i bambini assistono alle lezioni. Le maestre interrogano e correggono i compiti. Quando è possibile, senza essere visti, gli alunni giocano, si rincorrono e saltano sui banchi.

An important lesson (2009)
A school plunged in a forest in Tanzania, its students and teachers. A world so far away, but at the same time so familiar.
The school is on the edges of the forest, to get there you have to walk a path in the woods and set out early in the morning. You often need to pay attention to wild animals, monkeys, antelopes, predators and snakes who are the norm there.
For a month I was “back” to school desks, absorbed in a Swahili and a math lesson.
Photography, with its peculiarity and capacity of getting and locking reality in the making, allowed me to go into everyday life at school.
I took photographs incessantly, sometime also with frenzy and persistence, but the images of this story make a world, that otherwise would get lost, visible.
The schemes are the same of any classroom in the world, children attend classes. Teachers question them and correct homework. When it’s possible, without being seen, students play, chase each other and jump on the desks.
